Research Interests

The main focus of our ongoing DFG Project GR 5285, concerning bottom current strength, is to generate a closer understanding of the ocean-climate system. For this purpose, well calibrated proxy methods are a useful tool and Contourite Drift Systems (CDS) provide a perfect testing ground for such proxy methods. CDS are sediments deposited under sustained bottom current activity, and are widespread in the Atlantic Ocean. In my PhD thesis I am dealing with benthic foraminifera in this specific environment. We aim to analyze benthic foraminifera in the CDS’s of the Atlantic Ocean and to evaluate their potential as proxies for oceanic current pattern reconstructions.
