Palaeontology and Historical Geology

graphic slider element

The main topics of our team focus on the past ecosystems and the interactions between geosphere and biosphere during the Paleozoic (Cambrian, Devonian, and Carboniferous). Our efforts are focused on:

  • the processes and the causes of the evolution of the benthic communities (bivalves, corals, foraminifers, calcareous algae) in response to environmental and palaeogeographic changes.
  • the documentation of the paleodiversity and disparity of these taxa.
  • the reconstruction especially of carbonate environments/carbonate habitats, from platform and "reefs" to deeper water and their evolution, which is controlled by environmental changes on all time scales, from rapid to gradual.
