GIK Collection

The scientifically most important part of the collection is the so-called GIK collection (Geological Institute Cologne = Geologisches Institut Köln, germ.). It consists of reference and type material, about 2000 objects, which have been illustrated and described in scientific articles. Continuously catalogued since 1960, many specimens have been published in the publications of the institute's journal 'Sonderveröffentlichungen des Geologischen Instituts der Universität zu Köln' (Special Publications of the Geological Institute of the University of Cologne), which was published between 1956 and 1997 and replaced by the journal 'Kölner Forum für Geologie und Paläontologie' in 1998.
